Boarding Up Barnet provides emergency boarding up in East Barnet (EN4), making broken windows, forced doors and damaged shopfronts secure until permanent repairs can be arranged. A person answers the phone 24 hours a day, and we attend at night, at weekends and on bank holidays. Call 020 4652 1801 with your postcode and a description of the opening. We’ll confirm we can reach the address and work out an arrival time with you on the call.
Boarding up around East Barnet
Much of the housing near Grove Road is flats and semi-detached family homes, with commercial units close to Mount Pleasant roundabout. Examples of openings that might need boarding include a ground-floor window or back door at a house, a window in a flat above the ground floor, or glazing at a shop or office unit.
Access matters as much as the opening itself. Some roads here have one-way sections, such as part of Albert Road near East Barnet Road. Telling us where the van can stop and how we reach the damaged side of the building helps us plan before we set off.
Our van carries boarding stock and fixings. For most openings we use exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm, and OSB for smaller ones. We fit security or anti-tamper fixings where they’re needed. Where the frame allows, we use a non-destructive fixing method so the frame isn’t damaged further. If a frame is too badly damaged to hold a board properly, we’ll explain the options before starting any work.
An example call
For example, a typical call might come from someone in a first-floor flat whose window has been broken overnight, with glass on the pavement below. On the phone we’d ask about the size of the window, whether it can be reached safely from inside, and whether we’d need a ladder outside. If the frame is sound, a sheet of plywood could be cut to size and fixed from inside without drilling into the frame. If the frame has split, we’d talk through how to secure it first. This is an illustration of how we’d approach a job like this. It isn’t a record of a particular job.
While you wait
- Keep people and pets away from broken glass and any opening that looks unstable.
- Don’t go into a building you think is unsafe, and don’t climb onto roofs or ladders to check damage.
- Take photographs only if you can do so safely.
- Have your postcode and access details ready for the call, such as parking, side gates and which floor the opening is on.
After a break-in, report it to the police and keep the crime reference number before you contact your insurer. Our door boarding service covers securing damaged doors, frames and locks after forced entry. If you’ve had a fire, we can secure openings once the fire service hands the site back to you.
What you receive
You get the openings made safe, the agreed work completed, and paperwork for your records:
- an itemised invoice
- time-stamped before and after photographs
- a written statement of the work done
This paperwork is useful if you’re making a claim. Your insurer decides what’s covered. We aren’t loss adjusters or legal advisers. You can read more on our insurance claims page.
With the property secure, your glazier or door fitter can carry out permanent repairs when it suits you.
How the quote works
The quote is free and clear, and you get it on the call before any work starts. It depends on:
- the number and size of openings
- the height and access, including upper floors and whether ladders are needed
- the materials and board thickness
- the fixing method
- whether a damaged door or frame needs securing first
- whether there’s glass or debris to make safe
We have over 10 years’ experience, are fully insured (certificate on request) and are DBS-checked. Beyond EN4, we also cover boarding up in New Barnet, the wider Barnet area, and window boarding for homes and businesses.
