Door Boarding in Barnet
Boarding Up Barnet provides door boarding in Barnet for front, back and side doors that have been forced, split or left unable to lock. We make the opening secure with boarding and suitable fixings so the property can be closed up until the door, frame or lock is properly repaired. If a door won’t close tonight, someone answers the phone 24 hours a day: Call 020 4652 1801 with your postcode and a quick description of the damage.
When door boarding is the right fix
Door boarding fits when the door itself is the weak point. Typical examples include:
- A front door kicked in after a break-in, with the frame split around the lock or hinges
- A forced lock where the door no longer latches or the keep has been torn out
- A broken glazed panel in a door, leaving a gap someone could reach through
- A back or side door damaged in a fire or storm, once it’s safe to approach
- A door to an empty property that needs closing up properly between tenants or during works
If several windows are also broken, we can board those on the same visit. For empty properties needing every opening secured, our vacant property securing is usually the better fit.
How we secure a damaged door
Every door is different, so the method depends on what’s left to fix to.
If the frame is sound. We board over the opening or the damaged section using exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm, fixed back into solid timber or masonry. Where the frame allows, we use non-destructive fixing to keep extra damage down and make the permanent repair simpler.
If only a panel is broken. A smaller opening, such as a single glazed panel, can often be covered with OSB cut to size rather than boarding the whole door.
If the frame is badly damaged. A split or loose frame may not hold fixings well. Securing it might mean working around the damaged sections, fixing into the surrounding wall or boarding a larger area. We’ll explain the options before starting, so you know what’s being done and why.
Fixings. Where it matters, we use security or anti-tamper fixings that are harder to remove from outside. Not every job needs them, and we’ll tell you when we think they’re worthwhile.
Thinking about how you’ll get in and out
A boarded door still has to suit how you use the property. If it’s your only entrance, if a tenant lives there, or if a glazier or locksmith needs access later, tell us on the call. It affects how the door is secured and which side the fixings go on, so it’s worth sorting before we arrive rather than after.
Before we arrive
Keep yourself and others clear of broken glass and any door that’s hanging loose or could fall. Don’t try to force a damaged door shut if it’s unstable.
If the door was forced during a break-in, report it to the police and keep the crime reference number, then contact your insurer. Photograph the damage if it’s safe to do so. Our page on burglary repairs covers those first steps in more detail.
When you call, it helps to have:
- Your postcode and the full address
- Which door it is (front, back, side, patio) and roughly how big it is
- Whether it’s ground floor, or up stairs or a communal landing in a block of flats or maisonettes
- What’s damaged: the door, the frame, the lock, the glass, or a mix
- Safe photographs if you can take them, which you can email to us
We’ll work out the arrival time on the call from your postcode, and we’ll give you a free, clear quote before any work starts.
What happens on the visit
We look at the door and frame, confirm the approach we agreed on the call, and make safe any loose glass or debris around the opening. Then we cut and fix the boarding. Our van carries boarding stock and fixings.
Before we leave, we check the opening is secure and that you know how the property can now be accessed.
What you receive
- A made-safe door opening, secured with the materials and fixings we agreed
- An itemised invoice for the work
- Time-stamped before and after photographs
- A written statement of the work done
That paperwork is designed to support an insurance claim. Your insurer decides what’s covered, and we’re not loss adjusters, but clear records make the conversation easier. See our guide to insurance claims for what to keep together.
Boarding is the make-safe stage. Once the door is secure, you’ve got time to arrange a proper repair or replacement door, frame and lock without rushing into the first option available.
What affects the quote
There are no fixed prices on this page because door jobs vary a lot. On the call we’ll ask about:
- How many doors, and their size
- Access and height, such as upper-floor flats or awkward approaches
- Materials and board thickness
- Whether security or anti-tamper fixings are needed
- Whether a damaged door or frame has to be secured before boarding
- How much glass or debris needs making safe
A sound frame with a single broken panel is a different job from a split frame that has to be stabilised first, and the quote reflects that. Our pricing page explains these factors in more detail.
